General Surgery

swoosh

Providing expert surgical care to our patients is the goal of the general surgery team at the Pender Community Hospital’s Outpatient Specialty Clinic. To achieve that goal, we not only have a talented, experienced surgical staff in place, but use state-of-the-art technology and the latest techniques available when treating our patients. For us, it’s all about offering quality surgical care with no need to travel, allowing you to recover and receive follow-up care close to home.

Examples of the general surgeries we can provide include:

  • Hernia & colon repair
  • Gallbladder removal
  • Breast biopsy
  • Mass removal
  • Mastectomy
  • Port placement

Robotic Assisted Surgery
Our surgical team can also perform a number of robotic assisted surgical services with our da Vinci Surgical System.

The da Vinci System has made minimally invasive surgical procedures available to patients worldwide.

It is powered by robotic technology that allows the surgeon’s hand movements to be translated into smaller, precise movements of tiny instruments inside the patient. One of the instruments is a laparoscope, a thin tube with a tiny camera and light at the end that sends images to a video monitor in the operating room to guide doctors during surgery.

Patient and provider benefits of this system include:

  • Magnified vision system that gives surgeons a 3D HD view inside the patient’s body
  • Ergonomically designed console where the surgeon sits while operating
  • Wristed instruments that bend and rotate far greater than the human hand
  • Minimally invasive techniques that, studies show, provide less pain, shorter recovery times and better outcomes than traditional surgery

The different surgeries this system can help perform are:

  • Gallbladder removal
  • Hernia surgery
  • Colon resections
