Searching for information before visiting a family member or friend at Pender Community Hospital? Then, you have come to the right place. Since hospitalization and seeing patients in this type of setting is more than likely an unfamiliar experience for you, we’ve put together some information that should help you prepare for your visit.

General Visitor Information

Visitors are encouraged to see family members and friends. Visiting hours are open but we do advise that you check with the nurses’ station prior to visiting to make sure your visit occurs at the most appropriate time.

For the safety of our staff and patients, the front lobby doors automatically close at 5:00 p.m., are closed all day Saturday and Sunday and on holidays. We ask that all patients/visitors enter and exit through the Emergency Entrance doors during this time.

Visitor Guidelines

The following are some general guidelines for visitors:

  • Visitors may not smoke in patient rooms or anywhere in the hospital.
  • Visitors must dress appropriately and must wear shirt and shoes.
  • Individuals with colds, sore throats, or any contagious diseases should not visit patients.
  • Visits should be kept short.
  • Visitors should maintain a quiet environment and avoid unnecessary noise.
  • Visitors may be asked to leave the room during tests or treatments or when the doctor or nurse needs to see the patient.

Intensive/Critical Care

Due to the critical nature of patients in the intensive/critical care unit, visiting hours are not limited to specific times during the day or night. Only immediate family members are allowed in the unit. The number of visitors should not exceed two at any time. The number of visitors, length, and frequency of visits will be subject to the discretion of the charge nurse.
