Since 2011, we have added two licensed Respiratory Care Practitioners to our staff and have developed a state-of-the-art Cardiopulmonary Department that is available at Pender Community Hospital for our inpatient and outpatient services. Under the direction of our physicians, our Respiratory Care Practitioners treat respiratory illnesses such as Asthma, Emphysema, Chronic Bronchitis, and Pneumonia as well as many other respiratory ailments. The department's scope of care includes, but is not limited to:

Airway management and resuscitation
Diagnostic testing and monitoring

24 hour Holter monitors
Mechanical Ventilation
Sleep Studies (Both in Patient and out Patient studies available)
Pulmonary and Cardiac Rehabilitation

In addition to these services we are now able to provide diagnostic services for patients with known or suspected pulmonary disease or breathing disorders, With the purchase of our PFT (Pulmonary Function Testing) machine. Pulmonary function tests are a broad range of tests that measure how well the lungs take in and exhale air and how efficiently they transfer oxygen into the blood.
Some tests may include:
